Hello. I’m Dan Bowyer, a digital consultant, creative technologist slash entrepreneur based in London and Cape Town. This is my personal blog where I blurt about my 3 passions; technology, business and human behaviour.
I live on a boat in the middle of the Thames and in a small house at the foot of Table Mountain. I’m a biker, sun worshipper, movie buff, Stevie Wonder fan, geek, provocateur. I can’t cope with bullsh*t, am scared of flying and wearing a suit sometimes causes a rash.
I’ve worked with 300 or so businesses over the last 20 years (some below), helping with their tech issues. I specialise in fluffing the digital love triangle between business operations, sales and technology: Social Media, Web, App. I’m normally the back room boy, a part time Tech Director if you like, deft at energising teams and process while making good things happen for all stakeholders. Ultimately helping businesses make or save money using technology - A full work profile is here.
Right now I’m working with a few large and small businesses helping them get value from social media and embedding digital platforms into their workflow. I’m also building digital products with Supernice who develop mobile, touchscreen and gesture tracking apps for people like Adidas.
I enjoy speaking about tech, and I’m fascinated how our on and offline worlds connect. Peachy keen to explore business opportunities around retail – building digital products with big brands e.g. interactive shop windows, social commerce platforms and experiential marketing products. Also want to develop brand/employee engagement tools, educational games, electric cars/bikes and anything to do with sustainable property development. Your bag? Please do connect.
I’ve purposefully included personal and work thoughts on the same space, accepting the risks this carries, and potential for perceived verbaldiarrhoeaovershare! Why? At the core of my values is being open and out there, so… here I am! Good idea..? You tell me.
It’s called ‘Groupies to Geeks’ as that’s pretty much been my random journey so far – Model/boy band misfit to entrepreneur/tech monkey. I love writing about work stuff which is mainly my experience of digital (Much of which is a rehash of the copy I ghost write for others). The personal posts are as much for getting things out of my head than for anyone to read, so I apologise in advance if you find them a bit weird, ranty or sanctimonious. In any event I’d love to hear your thoughts on either, if you have time and it mayonnaises your sandwich.
